Variax guitars, originally by Line 6, have a special bridge with separate pickups for each string, and a digital output feed that allows separate processing of each string, allowing for tuning changes, etc. It is also a "modeling guitar", with a rotary knob on the front that selects different guitar tones, including several models by Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, Rickenbacker, and Martin, as well as banjo and sitar sounds. A backstage snapshot captured Jeff practicing on one of these, in Olympic White.
