Lost Highway [Payne]

[Covers]

Lyrics

I'm a rolling stone
All alone and lost
Oh, the life of sin
I have paid the cost

When I pass by
All the people say
Just another guy
On the lost highway

Turn it on Mr. Turner
Oh, make your momma proud of you, boy
Yes

For a deck of cards
And a jug of gin
And a woman's lies
Built this road of sin

The day we met
I went astray
Started rolling down
That lost highway

Oh, that just flattens me up, really
Greatest thing in the world, i mean, man, that's great

I was just a lad
Nearly twenty-two
Neither good nor bad
Just a guy like you

Now I'm lost
Too late to pray
Lord, I've paid the cost
On the lost highway

Now, boys, don't start
Your rambling round
On this road of sin
Are you sorrow bound?

Take my advice
Or you're cursed the day
You've paid the price
Of the lost highway

Notes

1948 song by blind country musician Leon Payne. Covered the following year by Hank Williams on his album of the same name. It was also used as the title of a 1997 film by David Lynch, which features the SP song "Eye" on the soundtrack.
