Long Live the Pumpkins - Jennifer Sloan
Death of Jonathan, Firing of Jimmy
1996-07-17

Hi everyone;
First of all, I just need to say; "May Jonathon Melvoine forever rest
in peace." I feel so bad for the Pumpkins right now. It just seems like
everything bad is happening to them. First it was Jimmy's dad, then
Bernadette, and now Jonathon. I really hope they pull through all of this and
I hope Jimmy gets some help for his problem. Maybe if the Pumpkins took a few
weeks off, it would really help them out. I'm praying for them.
Well, a while back, I wrote a poem about a drug addict. It was not
intended for Jonathon or Jimmy (and I'm not saying that either of them are),
but rather, more for a friend that I've known for about a year now, that has
some bad problems with drugs. But mostly, it's more for just addicts in
general, not really intended for anyone too specific.

His Treasured Star

He lives his life, all f*cked and fried.
He greets his devil every night.
The hole inside his porch-lit yard,
It holds the key; his treasured star.

The clock sounds; time to lose himself.
He fondles pain and hurt; it helps.
He stumbles; loses feelings felt,
But pain, it nurses back to health.

He rises, steps, and turns his head,
And shifts his weight; his broken friend.
It moves; it breaks; it falls again,
And now through obscured land, he's lead.

It's there, he knows; he feels Its crush,
And drawn to "life" and death; Its lust,
He drags his feet to soothe his need,
Which sprouted from a demon seed.

He loses life and all that's pure;
His great white powdered, treasured star.
He "lived", he "breathed", he filled his greed,
And finally gone, he'd filled his need.

And Death, it houses far gone souls,
To whom, it fully shines It's gold.
He moved, he broke, he fell apart,
For one last time; his tresured star.

By Jennifer Sloan

Well, there's my poem. I hope I didn't offend anyone in any sort of
way. The reason I used "he" instead of "she" was mostly because the friend I
that I was referring to before is male, just in case you were wondering. And
the drug I was referring to in the poem was cocaine, which was probably pretty
obvious. I'm not angry at any of the band members, but more, saddened by it
all. I don't feel anger because I know that drugs are not an easy thing to
just quit. I've never taken any drugs, and don't plan to, but I'm fairly
aware of all that they can do to a person. I just hope that Jimmy will get
some help for this problem and that the Pumpkins will emerge strong from this
whole incident. After what has just happened, Jimmy has probably noticed just
how bad things can get. He's kind of, in a way, just hit rock bottom, at which
point, people realize that they have a problem, and usually, will now act upon
it. I hope this is the case for Jimmy because if a person does not want help
or does not feel that they need it, they usually aren't very keen on being
helped. Please, let us all pray for Jimmy and the whole band. They need us
now more than ever. Any comments or questions, feel free to e-mail me at
sloan@solutions.mb.ca. Good-bye, for now...

LONG LIVE THE SMASHING PUMPKINS, and MAY JONATHON MELVOINE FOREVER REST IN
PEACE.

"Everybody's here, yet everyone is gone.
'Where have they gone?', you ask?...
The answer to this question is very apparent and clear.
Just look past the obvious and you'll find the way.
BUT, DO NOT FOLLOW. NEVER EVER FOLLOW."
