The Smashing Pumpkins on the Late Night with Conan O'Brien Show

The Smashing Pumpkins performed "Muzzle" on the Late Night with Conan O'Brien Show in New York City, New York, USA on February 25th, 1997. There was also a short interview after the band performed.

Conan: It is a real thrill to have our next guest with us. Here with a song from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Here is the Smashing Pumpkins!

Conan: Everybody we are back. First of all, I would like to thank the Smashing Pumpkins. That was amazing. Thank you very much for coming here and doing that. Now let's talk about tomorrow for a second. You are up for seven Grammy awards. Have you thought if you win, or you get up there, are you going write something down, or are you going go up there and wing it?

Billy: We always assume that we are going to lose, so we are going in with the losing attitude. So everything else is positive.

Conan: That's the theme of this show. You guys just finished a 18-month tour. I don't think people realize how much of a grind touring can be. So what do you have planned now? Are you just gonna take it easy, eat nachos and watch TV?

D'arcy: Twizzlers? Want one?

Conan: I would love a Twizzler. A couple solid months of eating Twizzlers.

D'arcy: While in the studio.

Billy: The first thing we did was go back to the studio, back to work.

Conan: Is that actually therapeutic compared to touring? Or is it neurotic and insane?

Billy: No, it has its own…pathology.

Conan: Right, right, you sound like a lot of fun.

Billy: We are kinda infamous for making rock and roll in an enticing profession.

Conan: Yeah, we can't thank you guys enough. You made this a terrific show.

Billy: Not to cut you off, I met Andy before and he didn't even remember meeting me.

Conan: Really? I think that was Andy last night. He told me today he remembered meeting you.

Billy: Well, I think he was a little tipsy.

Conan: That's how Andy relaxes before the show.

Billy: He had that look, like when you loosen the tie. He was at one of the Saturday Night Live parties, and he was like 'hey…'

Conan: Andy is this true?

Andy: Those parties are a lot of pressure for me…

Conan: All right, speaking of which I got to end the show now, or get yelled at by the network. Thanks Smashing Pumpkins.
