Billy has a Danelectro electric sitar [wiki], made between 1967-1969, which has been used on songs such as Luna and A Stitch in Time. Unlike a real sitar, which has 21-23 strings- 6 or 7 on top of a series of cuved, movable frets, and the rest run underneath- the electric sitar is set up like a regular guitar with 6 strings over fixed frets. The sitar's case makes an appearance in the Vieuphoria video, where Billy says "It's so cool, in fact, that we can't get it open". A picture of Billy holding it up was posted on Kerry Brown's blog in October, 2009, probably in preparation to record "A Stitch in Time".
